POLISH DRIVING LESSON #1 – ACCESS FORBIDDEN

Sunday, headed to the Tatry National Park, planning to take the cable-car to the highest point in the Carpathian Mountains …. On the road up there, were very surprised at how many people were walking up the track …. And put it down to the Poles being very active … with the real reason being that a special permit is required (ie. Buses, taxis) to use the road that leads to the cable-car, and police waiting at the end issuing Infringement Notices to unsuspecting tourists, pulling over nearly every second car there, including us!
Once again the “come all the way from Australia to visit the Home-Country, and you’re going to fine me for getting in touch with my roots” paid off … and he let me off with a warning (the fine could have been up to PLN500 – about A$220)… The signs themselves were a joke, with writing hard enough to read when standing in front of it …. let alone when trying to driving on the wrong side of the road, at 60km/h….. I will remember that sign for future.
