So arrive in Lima after midnight, and after immigration/customs its closer 2am.... and I’m dreading the hour ride to get into Centro Lima, and then look for a hotel.
I always knew that I needed to get to Cusco, which is the base for getting to Machu Picchu, but when I looked at flights few weeks back, they all were scheduled for early morning, which means that from Lima, I would need to be up at 2am to get to the airport.
Now, being here already (at the airport), waiting another few hours and getting direct to Cusco is not such a bad alternative... that way I can do Machu Picchu early on in my trip, and then slowly meander back towards Lima .. and do Lima at tail end of trip..
So I see if LanPeru has tickets available (they have) ... and get on the first flight out (5am).... this ain’t Egypt though .. flight was US$170 .... but given choice of alternatives .. I was happy with result.
The landing approach into Cusco was one of the most amazing I have ever experienced.. as the sun rose in the east, the plane slowly descending into the Valley, surrounded (dwarfed) by the Andeas.
I have to say, I am becoming a bit too indifferent about my travels ... here I am again, with only a handful of cloths in a small backpack, and arrive to zero degree morning.... lets hope it doesn’t rain .. or I could be in trouble (again)
