Got Wheels (Little Billy)
Bought a car in poland (through an old friend of my dad's, Jurek) .... 1992 Ford Fiesta 1.1 L, 120,00km.....I think its a bargain at PLN2500 (polish currency which is about A$1050).
Its got some rust, but that is pretty common over there (for a 15 year old car anyway), as they put salt on roads when it snows, and the salt sticks to the body, accelerating corrosion.
CHECH OUT THE SUNROOF!!! ..... not quite a convertable, but it will do
From what Jurek tells us, cars are very cheap in Poland, and there is quite a surplus ... at any one time there are approx 500,000 cars (10 - 20 year old models) for sale.
Because of the cheap labour in Poland (ie. mechanics, panelbeaters, etc), all the old cars from western europe (mainly Germany) are imported into Poland for a mechanical make-over, and are then sold onto wherever (Romania, Bulgaria ... etc).
He advises that its very easy to buy..... but much harder to sell ...... so we'll see how it goes .... might even keep it for little getaways ..... Poznan is very central to everywhere, and might use it again in future.
Since Pamela had to sell her car (the Ford Laser, of similar colour, which she nicknamed William after the number plate WIL-819), we decided to call him Little Billy .... lets hope it inherits Wil's reliability .... and not that of the MG!!!
